Soccer Prep.’s Coaching Philosophy

Soccer Prep. has been designed to help progress youth players to a professional level with a desire and hunger to succeed, and for playing the game in a skilful, free flowing and entertaining manner. Soccer Prep. wants to educate coaches and their players in positive ways of playing the game through a variety of mediums.

Soccer Prep. features planned coaching sessions that are player-centred. Coaching sessions should be based on two considerations. The first is based on working on situations that have arisen from previous matches and that are expected to arise in future matches. The second is working from an agreed syllabus and thus covering a complete and detailed programme over the season.

Soccer Prep. believes youngsters must be encouraged, through the correct environment, to not be fearful of making decisions and learning from those decisions whether they were right or wrong. Football matches are random and unpredictable events after all. Movement and decisions come from visual or audio cues from the environment.

Soccer Prep.’s understands that young players require education in the games techniques, principles of play, systems and tactics in order to improve their decision-making. Players practice their decision making by practicing, experimenting and competing. No two situations happen in exactly the same way at the same time, which is reflected in the lack of repetitive drills. Match situations should be treated in such a manner where they simply offer the opportunity to the players to put into practice the habits and standards they have been taught within coaching sessions. Post match feedback should then follow in both an individual and team basis.

Soccer Prep. looks to embrace new methods and recognises creativity from coaches and players. High standards and attention to detail are common features throughout.

Good habits require patience and determination in order to establish good players and good coaches.
